BB: Hofstra's Season Comes To An End In Loss To Delaware

Harrisonburg, VA - Delaware's Billy Sullivan and Coleman Vila combined on a three-hitter as Hofstra fell to the Fightin' Blue Hens, 3-1, Wednesday night at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. The loss eliminated the Pride from the Championship.

Hofstra sees its season end with a 23-23 record. Delaware improved to 30-26 and advanced to face a team to be determined Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The Blue Hens used a two-out rally in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Kyle Baker singled followed by a walk to Nick Patten and a Tyler Callender hit by pitch that loaded the bases. Calvin Scott delivered a two-run single to give Delaware the lead.

Hofstra got on the board in the sixth as Vito Friscia hit a mammoth home run to left center. It was the junior All-CAA selection's seventh round-tripper of the season.

But Sullivan, who was the CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, allowed just three hits and the one run over seven innings of work. He also stuck out 11 to improve to 7-3 on the season. Vila earned his sixth save with two innings of no-hit relief with four strikeouts.

CAA Pitcher of the Year John Rooney (8-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over six-plus innings. Rooney struck out nine. Chris Weiss pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit.
