SB: Hofstra Stays Unbeaten In CAA Play

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball team completed its sweep of Charleston with a 6-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Bill Edwards Stadium to stay unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association play and extend its win streak to six games.

The Pride improved to 24-8 with the win and 9-0 in conference, while Charleston dropped to 22-18 and 3-6 in CAA play.

Hofstra put up a four-spot in the bottom of the first inning, using five walks, a Megan Patierno two-run single to right-center and an error to take a 4-0 lead.

The next six batters went down in order, but Charleston got on the board in the top of the third on a two-run home run from Jordin Jones to cut the Pride's lead in half.

Junior Courtney Scarpato answered with a homer of her own, her second of the season, to push Hofstra's advantage to 5-2.

After freshman pitcher Sophie Dandola came in to relieve sophomore Sarah Cornell with one out in the top of the fifth, a single from Jones brought in a run to once again shave the lead to two. But Dandola worked out of the jam with help from her defense, as shortstop Kristin Hallam launched a throw to catcher Kaitlyne Musa at the plate for the second out.

Senior Brittany Allocca tacked on an insurance run with a solo shot to left field to lead off the bottom of the sixth.

Hofstra is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Wagner for a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. at Bill Edwards Stadium.

Notes:
-Hofstra finished the weekend with eight home runs, marking the fourth straight weekend the Pride has hit at least seven.
-The team's 35home  runs on the season ranks 10th in program history just 32 games into the year.
-Allocca moved into sole possession of fourth in program history for career home runs, hitting the 30th of her career and seventh of the season.
-The Pride is now 7-1 at Bill Edwards Stadium.
