SB: Hofstra Dismantles Seton Hall

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball team took a dominant 10-2 run-rule victory over Seton Hall on Tuesday evening at Bill Edwards Stadium.

All but one Pride batter recorded a hit as Hofstra slugged multiple home runs for the seventh straight game to extend its win streak to seven. The Pride improved to 25-8 on the season as the Pirates dropped to 17-23.

Senior Brielle Pietrafesa got Hofstra on the board with a blast to left-center for a 1-0 lead, her third home run in her past four games.

Junior Courtney Scarpato doubled right along the third-base line to leadoff the second inning before senior Megan Patierno laid down a bunt to reach first and move Scarpato to third. Scarpato came home on a wild pitch, before redshirt-senior Michaela Transue brought Patierno home from third with two outs with a single up the middle. Sophomore Kristin Hallam walked to put two runners on, and Pietrafesa's second RBI of the day came in the form of a single through the left side. The Pride capped the five-run inning with a two-run single off the left-field wall from senior Brittany Allocca.

The Pirates pulled a pair of runs back in the top of the third on a two-run homer from Hailey Arteaga.

Scarpato and senior Nikki Michalowski both homered in the bottom of the third to push the Pride's lead back to six.

The game ended in the bottom of the fifth as senior Kaitlyne Musa's double drove in Michalowski, and Hallam's hit brought in the team's 10th run for the victory.

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Cornell (15-5) was dominant in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out seven in the complete-game victory.

The Pride resumes conference play this weekend, heading to Delaware for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
