Jamaica, NY – St. John's posted a 4-0 victory over Hofstra Thursday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Courts. With temperatures in the 40's and wind gusts up near 20 mph, both teams decided to begin the contest with singles competition in a play-to-clinch format to avoid the weather affecting play.
Andrei Crapcenco had a pair of 6-2 victories over
Coco Haener at No. 3 to give the Johnnies an early 1-0 lead. Luka Sucevic followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 over the Pride's
Marcus Smith. Dusan Vukicevic extended the St. John's (12-5) lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over
Jan Leithner from the No. 4 spot. Alan Nunez Aguilera clinched the match for the Red Storm with a 7-5, 6-3 win over
Niko Vulinovich at No. 2.
Hofstra (8-6) is back in action Friday when it hosts Delaware at 2:30 p.m. at Sportime in Lynbrook, New York.
