Jimmy Yanes tallied two goals for the Pride but the Minutemen of UMass recorded 10 unanswered goals to turn a 3-2 deficit into a rout as the Pride fell to 20th-ranked UMass, 14-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association regular season finale for both teams at Garber Field Friday night.
Hofstra, which received the fourth seed in next week's CAA Championship at UMass following Delaware's victory over Drexel Friday night, falls to 6-7 on the season and 2-3 in the CAA. UMass, the number one seed in the CAA Championship improves to 10-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in CAA play.
In addition to Yanes' two goals, the Pride received a goal and an assist from seniors

Jack Concannon made 10 saves in the Hofstra cage.
UMass was led by Buddy Carr with three goals and one assist, Billy Philpott with three goals, Chris Connolly with two goals and two assists and Jeff Trainor with three assists. UMass goalie Sean Scanone recorded 14 saves, including eight in the second half.
The high scoring first half started out even with the two teams splitting the first four goals for a 2-2 deadlock -before McIntosh gave the Pride their only lead of the game with 3:48 to play in the first quarter. Yanes scored the first two Hofstra goals.
But UMass' Billy Philpott scored just nine seconds later to tie the contest and start a 10-goal run to open up a 12-3 lead at in the third. The Minutemen tallied five goals in a 2:23 span early in the second quarter to open up a big 9-3 lead at the break. UMass outshot the Pride 20-18 and picked up nine ground balls to the Pride's five in the first 30 minutes.
The Minutemen opened the third with three straight goals to boost the lead to 12-3 after Buddy Carr's third goal of the game at the 13:49 mark of the third. But Hofstra answered with unanswered goals by Alderman, Tierney and Moeser to close to within six at 12-6 after three quarters.
But UMass added two more goals in the first 3:02 of the fourth quarter to quiet any comeback rally by the Pride and set the final score at 14-6.
Following Delaware's win over Drexel Friday night, the Pride will return to Amherst and the CAA Tournament on Thursday and will face the top-seed Minutemen. Delaware will face the winner of Saturday's regular season finale between Towson and Fairfield in the other CAA Championship semifinal. The winners will meet on Saturday, May 5 for the CAA title.
Notes
- Friday's game was the 44th meeting between Hofstra and Massachusetts. UMass now leads the series 24-20.
- Hofstra was outshot, 37-32 and picked up 15 ground balls to the Minutemen's 19.
- Yanes and Tierney extended their consecutive game point streaks to 11 while Alderman and Moeser boosted their streaks to eight.
