Towson, MD - Sophomore
Alyssa Parrella led a spirited Hofstra comeback as the Pride cut a large deficit to two goals in the second half, but the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team could not complete the comeback as they fell, 15-11, to #8 Towson on Friday evening at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Parrella finished the game with six points on four goals and two assists.
The loss drops Hofstra record to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson improved to 13-2 and 5-0 in league action.
Hofstra led 3-1 early on as Parrella had two goals and sophomore
Alexa Mattera added the other in a 3-0 scoring run that which put the Pride in front with 20:41 to play in the opening stanza. Towson answered, though, and the Tigers scored seven straight goals to push the lead to 8-3 with 4:26 left in the half. Carly Tellekamp keyed the spurt for Towson with four goals during the run. Carlee Ancona ended the first half scoring with an unassisted goal for the Pride with 1:50 on the clock.
The Tigers pushed the lead to 11-5 just over 10 minutes into the second stanza before Hofstra mounted a rally. The Pride would score four straight goals to close the gap to 11-9 with 12:55 remaining in regulation. Parrella got the run started and she was aided by junior

Katie Whelan and Ancona. Towson responded with three goals of their own to end Hofstra's thoughts of a comeback and they would go on to capture the narrow win.
Ancona finished with a hat trick for the Pride, her second of the season, while Whelan tallied a goal and two assists. Mattera had a game-high seven draw controls, along with a pair of goals. Junior
Maddie Fields had 10 saves in net. Tellekamp notched seven goals in the game, while Emily Gillingham added three goals and two assists.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it travels to #4 James Madison for a 12 p.m. contest.
NOTES
- Hofstra is 15-24 all-time against Towson.
- The hat trick was Parrella's ninth of the season. Parrella now has 147 career points and is only two points shy of Rebecca Wales (1993-97) and Janet Walsh (1996-2000) for ninth place on the Pride's all-time scoring list.
- The two assists marked a season-high for Whelan. Previously she had one on several occasions.
