WTEN: Hofstra Picks Up 6-1 Win At Marist

Wappingers Falls, NYThe Hofstra Women's Tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak Monday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Marist at the Cross Court Tennis Club. The win improved the Pride's record to 7-10 on the season. The loss drops the Red Foxes to 6-7 overall.

Hofstra took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Michal Kaplan and Alejandra Ruffini teamed at No. 3 to post a 6-2 victory over the Marist duo of Elizabeth Brozovich and Claire Schmitz, 6-2. Sarah Catherine Herndon and Jasmine King followed with a 6-3 win at No. 1 over Amy Galloway and Julia Gabay to clinch the point. Meheq Khokhar and Ana Canahuate-Torres closed out doubles with a 7-5 win at No. 2 over Chloe Lant and Sophia Moeller.

The Pride kept the momentum going in singles, winning the first three completed flights to secure the win. Kaplan blanked Gabay at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0, while Herndon posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over Moeller at No. 4. Ruffini followed with her 17th win of the year at the No. 2 flight, as she bested Lant by the scores of 6-4, 6-3.

Schmitz was able to earn the only Red Foxes' point of the day when she defeated King in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. But the Pride got wins from Khokhar at No. 5 (6-2, 7-5 over Sophia Chavarria) and Ronia Dolabany at No. 6 (6-2, 6-1 over Brozovich).
 
Hofstra is back in action Thursday when it hosts Delaware at 3 p.m.
