SB: Hofstra Completes Sweep Of Elon

Elon, N.C. – The Hofstra Softball team completed the series sweep of Elon, taking an 8-2 win over the Phoenix on Sunday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.

Senior Brittany Allocca went 3-for-3 with two home runs, six RBIs and a walk, while classmate Brielle Pietrafesa was 4-for-4 with a walk on the day, as Hofstra improved to 21-8 and 6-0 in Colonial Athletic Association Play. The Phoenix dropped to 18-16 and 2-4 in the CAA.

The Pride opened the scoring in the top of the first, with Pietrafesa hitting a one-out double before Allocca sent her first home run to center field for a 2-0 Hofstra lead.

After committing a pair of errors in the top of the first, Elon shortstop Hannah Olson sought redemption at the plate, hitting a home run to cut the Pride's advantage in half.

Allocca picked up another RBI in the top of the second, singling to bring home redshirt-senior Michaela Transue, who had walked, giving Hofstra a 3-1 lead.

Junior Courtney Scarpato singled up the middle to leadoff the top of the third and stole second before senior Nikki Michalowski drilled her third homer of the series to push the advantage to 5-1.

The Phoenix threatened again in the bottom of the third, with runners on second and third, but the Pride escaped unscathed.

Sophomore Kristin Hallam and Pietrafesa each singled in the top of the fourth before Allocca hit her second home run for an 8-1 lead. Elon tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh on an Ally Repko double for the final 8-2 score.
