Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball team drove in runs in the sixth and seventh innings but came up one short in a 3-2 loss to local rival Fordham on Wednesday afternoon at Bill Edwards Stadium.
The Pride fell to 18-8 on the season, after winning their last eight straight, while the Rams improved to 13-15.
After sophomore pitcher
Sarah Cornell worked out of jams in the first and second innings, Fordham capitalized in the third with a pair of runs. The first came in on an obstruction call at the plate on a Maddie Aughinbaugh double, before Maria Trivelpiece added an RBI single to bring home Aughinbaugh.
The Rams made it a 3-0 game in the fourth on a Chelsea Skrepenak home run.
Hofstra attempted to climb out of the hole, getting on the board in the bottom of the sixth when an error in left field on a single from junior Courtney Scarapto allowed redshirt-junior
Lydia Witkowski to come home.
Redshirt-senior
Michaela Transue tried to spark a seventh-inning rally, homering to right-center with one out. Senior
Brittany Allocca then walked with two outs to bring the winning run to the plate, but Fordham escaped unscathed.
