Orlando, FL - Hofstra closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a 6-1 victory over Hobart Thursday night at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The Pride won five of six singles flights and took the doubles point as well.
Hofstra improved to 8-5 on the season, while Hobart dropped to 3-4.
Marcus Smith and
Jan Leithner got things started for the Pride with a 6-1 win over Walter Anderson and Jon Atwater at No. 2 doubles.
Niko Vulinovich and
Coco Haener clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Alan Dubrovsky and Jonah Salita.Â
Smith also opened up singles with a win as he downed Salita at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. Vulinovich followed with a win over Anderson at No. 4 by the same scores to ive the Pride a 3-0 lead.
Nick Silvestri clinched the match for the Pride at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Coilin Molloy. Haener picked up a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Dubrovsky at a No. 2, while
Santiago Haas earned a hard-fought win at No. 5 over David Reinharz. The Hofstra freshman dropped the first set, 3-6, before rallying for 6-2 and 10-2 wins in the next two sets.
Hofstra will be back in action Tuesday afternoon at Loyola (MD). Match time is set for 3 p.m.
