MTEN: Hofstra Downs FDU In Spring Opener

Box Score Bethpage, NY - The Hofstra University Men's Tennis team opened up the spring season with a 5-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday night at Sportime. The win pushed Hofstra's record to 2-1 on the season, while FDU slipped to 0-1.

Hofstra claimed the doubles point with 6-3 wins by David Schrott and Nick Silvestri at No. 3 and Jan Leithner and Marcus Smith at No. 2.

The Pride then went on to sweep the first three singles flights to clinch the match. Coco Haener got things rolling with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Youssef Sader at No. 3 singles. Smith followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the top flight over Moric Budinszky. Leithner clinched the team victory at No. 2 when Niclas Pietsch had to retire due to injury. Niko Vulinovich gave the Pride a fifth point when he won 8-3 over Maciej Autuch at the No. 4 flight.

Hofstra returns to action Friday night at 8 p.m. when it hosts Fordham at Sportime.
