Jimmy Yanes scored four goals and
Brendan Kavanagh scored two goals and added an assist, but Hobart rode a strong second half to a 9-8 win over the Pride in a scrimmage Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. The Statesmen outscored the Pride, 4-2, in the final 30 minutes.
Hofstra led 4-3 after the first quarter, rallying from a 3-2 deficit with goals from
Dylan Alderman and Yanes in the final 2:45. Hobart scored the first two goals of the second quarter as Mason Burr converted a pass from Chris Aslanian 44 seconds into the period to tie the score at four. Ryan Archer netted his second of the game at the 6:14 mark to give the Statesmen a 5-4 lead. But Yanes scored twice more for the Pride, including an extra man tally at 10:36 off a pass from Kavanagh to put the Pride back on top at 6-5.
Hobart came out of the locker room to start the third and scored three unanswered goals to take an 8-6 lead with 8:34 on the clock. Justin Scott opened the scoring 45 seconds into the quarter to tie the score at six and then put Hobart up to stay with a goal at the 5:42 mark off a feed from Archer. Ty Yanko converted an Aslanian feed less than a minute later to make it 8-6.
Ryan Tierney stopped the run for Hofstra with a man-up goal from about 18 yards out from Alderman to make it a one-goal game. But the Statesman struck once more before the quarter ended as Scott netted his third with 13 seconds to go.
Kavanagh would add a goal with 4:19 to play in the fourth to close out the scoring as Hobart prevented the Pride from getting the equalizer in the final minutes.
All-American keeper
Jack Concannon made 13 saves for the Pride, while Tristan Dougherty had eight saves in 51:29 for Hobart. Sam Lucchesi made two saves over the final 8:31.
In addition to his four goals, Yanes also added six ground balls. Concannon chipped in with four ground balls.
Archer finished with two goals, two assists and three ground balls for Hobart. Burr had two goals , while Aslanian had two assists.
The scrimmage marked Hofstra's final tune-up before opening the season on February 17 at Ohio State.
