BB: Brazill's No-Hitter Helps Hofstra Complete Sweep

Beaumont, TX - Seamus Brazill threw a no-hitter, believed to be the first in program history, in game two and Hofstra won game one in extra innings to sweep a doubleheader from Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Game scores were 3-2 in game one and 1-0 in game two.

Hofstra evened its record at 2-2, while the Cardinals dropped to 3-5 on the year.

In the seven-inning nightcap, Brazill walked four and struck out five in a 104-pitch outing. The no-hitter was the first of his career, at any level. "I felt strong from the start," said Brazill. "I was really excited after we won the first game and I wanted to keep the momentum going. I couldn't have done this without the help from our defense, who played great tonight. I also need to credit Coach Habyan for the confidence he has shown in me. The no-hitter is great, but what really matters is that we came away with the win."

The Pride manufactured the game's lone run in the fifth as Austin Gauthier led off with a single and stole second. After a walk, a groundout and an intentional walk, Teddy Cillis lifted a sacrifice fly to center that plated Gauthier. The Cardinals had an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh but Hofstra's defense came up big. With runners on first and second and one out, Chase Whetsel hit a grounder to short. The Pride attempted to turn the 6-4-3 double play but Whetsel beat the throw. Cole Girouard attempted to score the tying run from second, but was cut down at the plate on strike from first baseman Rob Weissheier to end the game.

Jack Dallas (0-1) took the loss for Lamar, allowing one run on five hits over four innings of work.

In the opener, Lamar tied the game at two in the bottom of the ninth but Weissheier doubled home Devon Jeffreys with what proved to be the winning run in the 10th inning. Chris Weiss (1-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Vito Friscia and Parker Quinn each had RBIs for the Pride in a two-run ninth that put the Pride on top.  Friscia collected three hits in the game. Weissheier and Cillis both had two hits.

Brad Camarda started for the Pride and allowed three hits and an unearned run over five innings. Tanner Driskill (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings.

Hofstra is back in action next Saturday at Norfolk State.

Notes:
-Hofstra starting pitching allowed just two runs (one earned) and 11 hits in 23 1/3 innings in the series.
-Friscia batted .429 in the four games.
