Orlando, Fla. – For the third time in the past four games, the Hofstra Softball team needed eight innings. This time, however, the Pride ended up on the losing end, falling, 1-0, to Central Florida on Monday afternoon at UCF Softball Complex.
Hofstra dropped to 7-4 on the season, while the Knights improved to 6-4.
Both pitchers were strong, with UCF narrowly outhitting Hofstra, 4-2. Sophomore pitcher
Sarah Cornell (5-3) struck out 10 in the loss, while Alea White (4-4) fanned seven for the Knights.
After entering the seventh inning still scoreless, sophomore
Kristin Hallam singled up the middle, before senior
Brittany Allocca reached on a fielder's choice, but the Knights held the Pride off the scoreboard.
UCF took home the win in the bottom of the eighth with two outs. Denali Schapapper got on base with walk. Megan Greenwell's bunt single then advanced Schapapper to third, before Cassady Brewer's RBI single brought her Schapapper home for the walk-off victory.
The Pride concludes this Florida trip on Tuesday, taking on North Florida at 12 p.m. at Jacksonville University.
Notes:
-Cornell threw double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this season, after never throwing more than nine in her rookie campaign.
-Hallam has at least one hit in nine of the Pride's 11 games.

Megan Patierno had Hofstra's other hit, a lead-off double in the third.
