Orlando, Fla. – The Hofstra Softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon at UCF Softball Complex.
Senior
Sarah Edwards went 3-for-3 on the day, including a two-run home run to lead the Pride, while classmate
Brittany Allocca was 2-for-3. Hofstra dropped to 7-3 with the loss.
The Red Raiders (4-5) opened the scoring in the top of the first, recording a pair of hits with no outs before Karli Hamilton drove in a pair of runs.
The Pride answered in the bottom of the inning, with Edwards sending a two-run blast to right field to bring Allocca home after she had singled.
Hamilton picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third to give Texas Tech the lead back. Hofstra threatened to tie it in the bottom of the inning, with Allocca walking and Edwards doubling. Senior
Brielle Pietrafesa then walked to load the bases, but the Raiders got out of the jam.
The Raiders sealed the game with a Heaven Burton RBI single in the top of the seventh. Edwards doubled with two outs in a last-ditch effort for the Pride, but Texas Tech held on for the win.
Hofstra is back in action on Monday, taking on UCF at 3 p.m. at UCF Softball Complex.
Notes:
-Edwards' homer was her second of the season, giving her the team lead and marking her first multi-home run season for Hofstra.

Sarah Cornell pitched 4.0 innings and struck out four.
-Freshman pitcher
Sophie Dandola pitched 3.0 innings and allowed just one hit.
-The loss was Hofstra's first to a team other than South Carolina.
