MBB: Hofstra Drops Road Tilt To UNCW

Wilmington, NC - Senior Rokas Gustys had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Justin Wright-Foreman posted 15 points, but UNCW used a big second half to defeat the Hofstra Men's Basketball team, 90-70, on Saturday evening at Trask Coliseum.

Hofstra falls to 15-11 and 8-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss. UNCW, which outscored the Pride, 48-33, in the second half, improved to 8-17 and 5-8 in the league.

It was a half of runs for both teams in the opening stanza as an early 10-0 scoring run for the Pride gave Hofstra its first lead of the game at 10-4 following a old-fashioned three-point play from junior Desure Buie with 16:38 showing on the clock. The Pride would take a 35-32 lead later in the half as the visitors used a quick 6-0 scoring run to take the lead. It would be the Seahawks the remainder of the half, though, as UNCW outscored Hofstra, 10-2 ,over the final four minutes to take five-point lead into the locker room.

A three-pointer from sophomore Stafford Trueheart 20 seconds into the second half made it a two-point game at 42-20 before UNCW used an 11-2 run to make it a 53-44 Seahawk lead with just under 17 minutes left in regulation. A 6-o run by UNCW would give the Seahawks their largest lead of the game at 63-50 with 12:26 remaining. Two free throws from SABETY with 11:43 left would close the gap to nine, 63-54, but UNCW used a 10-4 run to push the lead back to 15, 73-58, with just under eight minutes left.

The Pride closed to within 10, 76-66, with 3:20 left on a three-pointer from junior Kenny Wormley, but Hofstra would be unable to complete the rally as they fell to the Seahawks.

Buie finished with 11 points and five assists for Hofstra, while UNCW was led by Devontae Cacok's 25 points and 16 rebounds.
