MBB: Pemberton Reaches 1,000 Career Points In Hofstra Win

Kennesaw, GA - Hofstra junior Eli Pemberton became the 37th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau and the Hofstra Men's Basketball team cruised to a 78-52 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center. 

Pemberton reached the milestone early in the contest as a three-pointer at the 14:02 mark gave him five points on the day to achieve the mark. He finished with 15 points in the contest and now has 1,010 in his career. 

Hofstra put together back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they improved to 5-3 this season. The Owls fall to 1-8 with the loss. Senior Justin Wright-Foreman led the Pride with 20 points. 

The game was knotted at seven early on after a KSU basket before Hofstra put together a 14-1 scoring run to push the advantage  to 21-8 with 11:40 left in the half following a jumper from Wright-Foreman. Pemberton and Wright-Foreman each had five points during the run to pace the Pride. Hofstra took its largest lead of the opening half at 37-20 with 58 seconds left before intermission as the Pride sank four straight free throws. 

Kennesaw State closed the gap to nine about five minutes into the second half as they used a 10-2 run to cut into the large Pride lead. The Pride responded and almost immediately pushed the lead back up to 15 and would cruise to the double-double victory. 

Sophomore Jalen ray finished with 10 points for Hofstra, which got also got a team-high seven rebounds from Pemberton. Wright-Foreman had five assists and five rebounds in the game. 

Tyler Hooker had 16 points and six assists in the game for Kennesaw State. Isaac Mbuyamba grabbed eight rebounds for the Owls.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 2-0 all-time against Kennesaw State after defeating the Owls last season.  
- With his 20 points in the game, Wright-Foreman extended his double-figure point scoring streak to 61 games. It ranks as the second-longest streak in the nation. Pemberton has scored in double figures in all eight games this season. 
- Hofstra held Kennesaw State to 0-9 shooting from three-point range. It marked the first time the Pride has held an opponent without a three-pointer since February 10, 2014 when James Madison went 0-11 from beyond the arc.
