College Park, MD - Senior
Justin Wright-Foreman scored a game-high 27 points and the Hofstra Men's Basketball team gave Maryland a battle until the end but the Terrapins pulled away late for an 80-69 win over the Pride on Friday evening at the XFINITY Center.
Hofstra falls to 2-2 with the loss, while Maryland improves to 4-0.
The Pride took a six-point lead at the break, 37-31, as Hofstra broke a 27-all tie with a three-pointer from junior
Stafford Trueheart and then closed the half with a 7-2 run after Maryland closed the gap to one, 30-29, with 2:52 left before intermission. Trueheart added another three during the half-closing run and was assisted with two points each from graduate
Dan Dwyer and Wright-Foreman.
Hofstra would push the lead to eight on a trio of occasions early in the second half, the last time at 43-35 on a layup from junior
Eli Pemberton with 18:18 to play in regulation.
Maryland responded, though, and used an 12-1 run to take a 47-44 advantage with 15:23 showing on the clock. The deficit would still be three for the Pride with 10:50 left after a three-pointer from Wright-Foreman, but Maryland used a 9-2 run to take its largest lead to that point at 66-56 and the Terrapins would go on to earn the victory.
Junior
Tareq Coburn tallied a career-best 10 points and Pemberton also added 10.
Maryland was led by 17 points from Bruno Fernando and 14 from Eric Ayala. The Terps placed six players in double figures.
