Box Score Hempstead, NY - Odessa Stork rallied from a set down in her No. 6 singles match to post the clinching victory as Hofstra defeated NYIT, 5-1, Friday afternoon at the Hofstra Tennis Courts. 
 
Hofstra moved to 1-0 on the season while the Bears dropped to 8-1. 
 
Stork dropped a 7-6 decision in the first set, falling 8-6 in the tiebreaker, to Monica Borobia before taking the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Her win gave the Pride a 4-1 win. Alejandra Ruffini followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-5) win over Barbie Quagliardi to close out the scoring. Quagliardi, who won the ITA Division 2 East Regional, had entered the day undefeated (28-0) in her college career. 
 
Hofstra picked up the doubles point by winning the final two flights. Katherine Kachkarov and Ruffini defeated Quagliardi and Kaitlyn Byrnes, 6-3, at No. 2 before Sarah Herndon and Michal Kaplan downed Borobia and Ann-Kathrin Zilles, 6-4, at No. 3.
 
Hailey Feuer and Michal Kaplan picked up singles victories at No. 4 and No. 3 singles to increase the Pride's lead to 3-0.
 
Hofstra will be back in action at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship at Yale beginning Thursday, October 11.
