WSOC: Hofstra Headed To CAA Title Game

Brookline, MA - Sophomore Lucy Porter scored the game-winner in the ninth minute and the Pride defense made the goal stand up as the Hofstra Women's Soccer team advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game with a 1-0 victory over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.

Hofstra won its fourth consecutive game and extended its unbeaten streak to five games as it improved to 14-5-1 this season. Northeastern dropped to 10-9-1 with the loss.

Porter tallied her ninth goal of the season early on as freshman Miri Taylor had a give-and-go with senior Jenn Buoncore, who crossed the ball to Porter and she headed it in for the early Pride advantage.

Hofstra had more of the chances in the opening stanza as they outshot the Huskies, 9-7, before intermission. The Pride would have to withstand a ton of pressure from Northeastern in the second half, though, as the home squad had a 13-2 shot advantage in the final 45 minutes. The Pride's two goalies, seniors Jenna Borresen (3) and Ashley Wilson (5) combined for eight saves to preserve the win.

Hofstra will face James Madison in the title contest on Saturday, November 3 at 1 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 16-9-2 all-time against Northeastern. The Pride avenged a 1-0 loss to the Huskies back on October 4.
- The shutout was Hofstra's eighth of the season.
- Hofstra will be making its eighth appearance in the CAA Finals since joining the league in 2002. The Pride captured the 2017 CAA title with a 2-1 win over Northeastern.
