WSOC: Back-To-Back! Hofstra Repeats As CAA Champs

Harrisonburg, VA - Lucy Porter and Sabrina Bryan scored goals for the Pride as third-seeded Hofstra defeated top-seeded James Madison, 2-0, to claim the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Championship and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Hofstra, which won its second consecutive CAA title and fifth overall, improved to 15-5-1 on the season. The Dukes see their season end at 11-8-1.

The Pride got on the board in the 14th minute following a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Miri Taylor's kick was blocked by the wall, and another attempt was also blocked. The ball came out to Porter on the left side and she buried her shot for her 10th goal of the season.

The Dukes had a great chance to tie the score but Haley Crawford's uncontested shot from inside the box hit the side of the net in the 19th minute.

The score remained that way until the 56:08 mark when Bryan converted a rebound off a Jenn Buonacore shot for her 11th goal of the season. The assist was Buoncore's school-record 13th of the season.

Hofstra outshot the Dukes, 12-9, in the game. Hofstra keepers Jenna Borresen (0) and Ashley Wilson (2) combined for two saves in the victory. Hannah McShea had four saves for the Dukes.

Bryan, Porter, Kelly Gerdes, and Madeline Anderson were named to the CAA All-Tournament Team with Anderson earning CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player honors.

The Pride will learn its NCAA Tournament opponent Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
