Luke Brown scored the go-ahead goal with just under 13 minutes to play as Hofstra rallied for a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Elon Saturday night at Rudd Field. The Pride trailed, 1-0, early in the second half before scoring the final two goals.
Hofstra snapped a two-game losing streak with the win and improved to 7-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the CAA. Elon fell to 4-8-2 overall and 1-5-1 in league action.
The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead early in the second half as Amir Berkane scored on a penalty kick at the 47:26 mark. The Pride got the equalizer onÂ
Lennart Seufert's goal. The freshman sent a ball into the box that was bent inside the far post for his first career tally at 63:14. The score remained that way until Brown sent a goal into an empty net following a collision at the top of the box between Hofstra's
Etienne Botty and Elon keeper Matthew Jieger. Botty got a head on the ball and sent it over Jieger and Brown finished for the game-winner.
Leo Arkanhelskyi made the start in goal for the Pride but did not make a save in picking up the win. Jieger had two saves in goal for the Phoenix.
Hofstra is back in action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when it steps out of conference for a road game at Brown.
Notes:
-Elon outshot the Pride, 12-6, but only had one shot on goal.
-Brown's goal was his fourth of the season.
-Botty's assist was his first career point with the Pride.
-Arkanhelskyi's start was his first since October 25, 2017 at Binghamton.
-Hofstra is 4-0-1 all-time versus Elon.
