Elon, NC -
Sabrina Bryan and
Lucy Porter scored their second goals of the game five minutes apart in the second half to rally Hofstra to a 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Elon Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix had taken a 3-2 lead early in the second half.
Hofstra improved to 11-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the CAA with its second consecutive victory. Elon slipped to 3-8-3 on the year and 1-5 in the CAA.
Bryan wasted no time in getting Hofstra a lead as she scored off a
Jenn Buoncore pass just 50 seconds into the game. Buoncore had intercepted a clearing pass deep in the Elon end and slid a pass to Bryan in the box. Her shot from 12-yards out beat Valentina Estrada on the right side. Porter put the Pride up, 2-0, at the 14:34 mark when she took a pass from Bryan and hit a shot into an open net as Valentina had come off her line to challenge Bryan's rush.
The Phoenix cut the deficit in half on Carson Jones' unassisted goal at the 23:07 mark before scoring the first two goals of the second half to take a 3-2 lead at 48:45 following Hannah Doherty bending a corner kick in for the score.
But Bryan would tie the score at 62:38 with a 25-yard blast and Porter followed at 67:52 with her second of the day as she put in her own rebound for the game-winner.
Jenna Borresen made one save for the Pride. Estrada had five saves for Elon before being replaced by Katelyn Fowler with 15:21 to play. Fowler stopped the only shot she faced.
Hofstra returns to action next Sunday in its final regular season game, at home against Charleston at 1 p.m. The Pride will celebrate Senior Day prior to kickoff. Tickets are available at HofstraTickets.com or by calling 516-HOF-TIXX.
