MBB: Hofstra Runs Away From Delaware

Hempstead, NY - Desure Buie scored a career-high 20 points and added a personal-best eight assists as four Hofstra players scored in double-figures, as the Pride ran away from Delaware in the second half en route to a 90-63 Colonial Athletic Association victory Thursday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Hofstra outscored the Fightin' Blue Hens, 51-32, after intermission to win for the third consecutive game.

Hofstra (12-7, 5-2 CAA) enjoyed a second straight night of strong shooting, following up a 61 percent effort at Drexel with a 55 percent shooting night against Delaware. The Pride also scored 90 points for the second consecutive game. The Blue Hens saw their three-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in league action.

In addition to Buie, Eli Pemberton had a game-high 21 points on 7-12 shooting. Justin Wright-Foreman added 15 points, while Jalen Ray chipped in with 10 points. Rokas Gustys had a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points and three blocks. Stafford Trueheart had nine points on 4-5 shooting.

Both teams came out of the gates strong, as Hofstra hit six of its first eight shots to build a 14-11 lead a little more than five minutes into the game despite the Blue Hens connecting on five of its first nine attempts from the field. Each Hofstra starter scored in the game's opening minutes. The Pride extended to a 22-13 lead with 12:32 on the clock following Buie's second three-pointer of the night. Both teams cooled off after the torrid start, but Delaware was able to use a 9-2 spurt to get to within two, 24-22, with 7:19 to play in the half. The Pride did hold Delaware to no field goals in the final 3:10 and went into halftime with a 39-31 lead. Hofstra shot 50 percent (17-34) in the half compared to 45 percent (14-31) for Delaware.

Hofstra took its then-largest lead of the game, 43-33, nearly two minutes into the second half following four consecutive points from Pemberton. A Wright-Foreman three-pointer extended the lead to 11, 48-37, with 17:15 remaining. Wright-Foreman scored again on a foul line jumper to force a Delaware timeout with 15:53 on the clock and the Pride leading 50-39. A Ray three-pointer and a layup from Gustys pushed the Pride's advantage to 55-39 with 14:42 to go. The Pride benefitted once again from strong shooting, as they started the half six-of-eight from the floor. Hofstra would build the lead to 22 with eight minutes to play and then used a 13-0 run to take a 33-point lead, 85-52, with just over four minutes to go. Delaware would not get closer than the final score the rest of the way.

Ryan Allen had a team-best 16 points for Delaware. He was followed by Anthony Mosely with 15 points and Ryan Daly with 13. Daly also grabbed eight rebounds to pace Delaware.
