VB: Hofstra Drops Close Three-Set Decision To Alabama

Tuscaloosa, AL – Freshman Ivania Ortiz had her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs for the Hofstra Volleyball team, but Alabama rallied in the first set and eventually earned a tight three-set win over the Pride on Friday evening at Forster Auditorium.

Hofstra falls to 4-5 with the loss and sees its three-match win streak come to an end. The Crimson Tide improved to 6-2 with the victory. Set scores were 27-25, 25-17 and 25-19 in favor of Alabama.

Hofstra had several set point opportunities in the opening stanza but was unable to put Alabama away and then the home squad rebounded in "extra time" to record the narrow two-point win.

Junior Caylie Denham led Hofstra with 18 digs, while sophomore Luisa Sydlik also tallied her third double-double of the season with 33 assists and 15 digs.

Hofstra will conclude play at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash on Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST) against Tennessee State.
