MTEN: Smith, Leithner Fall On Day One Of ITA All-American

Tulsa, OK - Hofstra University juniors Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner each lost their first matches at the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships Saturday at the University of Tulsa. The two will now compete in the prequalifying consolation bracket.

Smith, who received a first round (round of 256) bye, dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Humberto Lopez of UC Irvine in the round of 128. Leithner fell to Oklahoma's Mason Bridegan in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 in the round of 256.

Leithner will face Temples Alberto Caceres Casas Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT), while Smith will meet Lamar's Benny Schweizer at 9:30 a.m. (CDT). Casas lost his first round match to Sebastian Santibanez of Lamar, while Schweizer lost to Lopez in the first round by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
