FH: Hofstra Gets Tripped Up At New Hampshire

Durham, NH – Pride freshman Philine de Wolf scored her third goal of the season in the second half but the Wildcats of New Hampshire scored twice in the first half and added a late goal on the way to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Hofstra at rainy Memorial Field Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra, which dropped its second consecutive game, slips to 2-3 on the season while the Wildcats of UNH improve to 2-1.

The Wildcats jumped on the scoreboard at the 6:43 mark of the first half as Bloem van den Brekel tallied her first of the season from near the top of the circle. UNH made it 2-0 with less than 4:00 to play in the half as Erin McNamara redirected a Katie Audino pass across the goalmouth for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Hofstra cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 51:41 mark when junior Madison Sauve found de Wolf ahead of the UNH defense for a breakaway goal. Any Pride thoughts of tying the contest ended with 2:07 to play when UNH sophomore Kayla Sliz fired a bullet past Hofstra goalie Carys Swan from near the top of the circle.

Hofstra was outshot in the contest, 24-3 and UNH had seven penalty corners to the Pride's one. Swan recorded a season-high 12 saves in the Pride goal.

The Pride return to action on Saturday, September 9 when Hofstra hosts the Bobcats of Quinnipiac at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
