Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over Colonial Athletic Association opponent Drexel on Thursday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride (7-3-2, 3-0-0 CAA) has won four straight and has allowed just one goal in its past six games. Drexel (6-5-1, 1-1-1 CAA) had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped with the loss.
Senior
Kristin Desmond scored her league-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 38th minute to give Hofstra the lead, calmly placing the shot into the lower left side.
The Pride carried play the rest of the way, outshooting the Dragons, 11-4, in the second half before junior
Jenn Buoncore added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Desmond played the ball into freshman
Lucy Shepherd, whose shot floated out into the box after a miscommunication by the Drexel defense, and Buoncore tapped it in.
Hofstra heads to William & Mary on Sunday for a 2 p.m. CAA contest.
Notes:
-Hofstra now has six shutouts on the season and a team goals-against average of 0.79.
-Desmond and Shepherd each picked up their first assists of the season on Buoncore's goal.
-Buoncore is second on the team with three goals.
-Desmond is 3-3 on penalty kicks this season and has scored from the penalty stripe in back-to-back games.
