Luisa Sydlik had 54 assists and nine digs, while freshman
Ivania Ortiz posted 17 kills and seven digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a four-set win over George Washington on Saturday evening in the final match of the GW Invitational.
Hofstra improved to 2-4 with the win as Sydlik and Ortiz were named to the all-tournament team for the Pride after helping Hofstra to a pair of wins during the weekend. Set scores were 20-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 in favor of the Pride.
Earlier in the day, Hofstra fell in four sets to Indiana as the Pride nearly recovered from a two set to none deficit before succumbing in a tough 31-29 score in the fourth set. Sophomore
Laura Masciullo led the Pride with 18 kills in that match, while Ortiz posted 14 kills and 15 digs.
The Pride return to action on Tuesday when it travels east to its Long Island rival Stony Brook for a 6 p.m. match.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 6-3 all-time against George Washington and 0-1 all-time against Indiana. It was the first meeting with the Colonials since 1997.
- The 15 digs by Ortiz marked a new season-high for the rookie.
- Both of Hofstra's wins this season have come when the Pride dropped the opening set.
