VB: Hofstra Drops Tournament Finale To Syracuse

Hempstead, NY – Freshman Emma Price had 12 kills and three blocks for the Hofstra Volleyball team, but the Pride saw its four-match win streak come to an end in a four-set loss to Syracuse on Saturday evening in the final match of the Hofstra/Asics Invitational at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19, 23-25 and 26-24 in favor of the visitors.

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 8-6 this season, while Syracuse improves to 8-5. Despite the loss, Hofstra was crowned the tournament champion via sets won winning percentage (Hofstra, Syracuse and Bryant all finished 2-1). Sophomore Luisa Sydlik was named the tournament MVP and she was joined on the all-tournament team by junior Michela Rucli

After falling into a 2-0 sets deficit, Hofstra rallied with a tight two-point win in the third stanza and nearly sent the match to a fifth and final set before the Orange broke a late 24-all tie and scored the final two points of the match. Sydlik had 47 assists for the Pride, which also got eight kills and six blocks from Rucli. Freshman Sanne Maring chipped in with eight kills and six blocks. Anastasiya Gorelina posted 18 kills, nine digs and three blocks to lead Syracuse to the win.
