Baltimore, Md. – Hofstra Director of Men's Basketball Operations
Colin Curtin coached Overseas Elite to its third straight championship in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) on Thursday night at Coppin State, claiming the $2 million prize.
TBT is an annual 5-on-5 tournament where fan votes help determine the 64-team field. Ten percent of the winning team's $2 million goes to the team's top fans.
In Thursday night's championship game on ESPN, Overseas Elite edged sixth-seeded Team ALS Challenge, 86-83, to claim its third consecutive title. Overseas Elite – made up of former collegiate basketball players from schools such as St. John's, Houston and Pittsburgh who now play overseas – was the South Region's top seed after Curtin led the team to victory in 2015 and 2016.
Kyle Fogg, who played at Arizona, led Overseas Elite with 29 points in the win, and the team was 24-for-25 from the free-throw line.
TBT began with regional rounds at four sites, with the Super 16 and Regional Championships taking place in Brooklyn before the semifinals and championship in Baltimore. With Curtin at the helm, Overseas Elite is now 19-0 all-time in TBT games.
