Laura Masciullo posted 13 kills but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra Volleyball team fell in three sets to Virginia on Friday evening.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-20 in favor of UVA.
It marked the season opener for both squads with Hofstra now 0-1 on the year and Virginia with a 1-0 record. The loss ended a string of six straight wins in season openers for the Pride.
The first set was the closest of the match with the stanza tied at 19 before Virginia scored three straight to take a late lead they would not relinquish.
Hofstra has a pair of matches on the schedule Saturday as the Pride will take on Villanova at 10 a.m. and then Liberty at 4:30 p.m. in continued play at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Cavalier Classic.
