Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Women's Tennis student-athlete
Michal Kaplan has been selected to represent Team Canada in the 20th Maccabiah Games, which will take place July 4-18 in Israel. Kaplan, a native of Thornhill, Ontario, will be a member of the Open Tennis Team.
Â
The Maccabiah Games, a prominent international sports competition held every four years in Israel, is one of the top three gatherings of athletes in the world just behind the Olympics and the University Games. Kaplan, a rising junior, will be part of a more than 600-member delegation from Canada and will join a total of 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries around the globe.
Â
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the Maccabiah Games," said Kaplan. "Representing my country and faith means the world to me. I'm very honored to be one of the few chosen tennis players that gets to experience something so great!"
Â
"I am very proud of Michal for being selected to compete in this prestigious event," said Hofstra Tennis Head Coach
Jason Pasion. "She is such a talented player and I know she will contribute so much to the team, on and off the court, at the Maccabiah Games. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for her, as she will get a chance to show her talents on a world stage. It will be an experience she will never forget."
Â
Kaplan was 8-8 for the Pride this past season, but missed nearly two months of the spring season due to injury. As a freshman in 2015-16, Kaplan posted a 16-7 overall singles mark.
