MTEN: Hofstra Picks Up Pair Of Wins Saturday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Tennis team posted a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Saint Francis Brooklyn and Coppin State. The Pride picked up a 5-0 win over Saint Francis and then had a 7-0 win over Coppin State.

Versus Saint Francis, the Pride got doubles wins from Niko Vulinovich and Coco Haener at the top flight, Jan Leithner and Marcus Smith at the second flight and Nick Silvestri and David Schrott at No. 3.

Smith, Vulinovich and Leithner each won at the top three singles flights in straight sets before Haener picked up a three set win at No. 4 to make it a 5-0 score. With the match decided and both teams having additional matches on the day, fifth and sixth singles were not completed.

Hofstra then raced past Coppin State in its second match of the day. The Pride swept all three doubles flights and each of the six singles flights, all in straight sets. Smith won his first flight singles match without dropping a game, while Haener (No. 4) and Silvestri dropped just one in their victories.

The Pride moved to 8-11 with the wins. The Terriers are now 4-8, while Coppin State is 1-9.

Hofstra is back in action Sunday, hosting Villanova at Noon.
