Hempstead, NY –
Steven Foster finished a home run short of a cycle and
Tom Archer hit his first career home run, but Manhattan rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to post a 6-3 win over Hofstra Wednesday afternoon at University Field.
Hofstra dropped to 10-28 on the season with the loss, while Manhattan improved to 11-27 with the win. The Jaspers avenged an 8-2 loss to the Pride last Tuesday at Dutchess County Stadium.
The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the first as Foster hit a leadoff triple and came in on a ground out by
Teddy Cillis. The lead went to 2-0 in the third as Archer hit his first career home run, a shot over the left field fence.
But the Jaspers scored three times in the fifth to take the lead for good. Manhattan's leadoff batter reached on an error and came in on an RBI double from Dominic Palma. Alex Cerda followed with his first home run of the year to make it a 3-2 game. The Jaspers would score another unearned run in the seventh on a bases loaded hit by pitch and then added two more runs in the eighth as Cerda doubled in a run and Jose Carrera had an RBI single.
The Pride made it 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth on
Vito Friscia's RBI double. Hofstra had the tying run at bat in the eighth but could not push any more runs across.
Joey Rocchietti (3-4) pitched a scoreless fourth inning for Manhattan and was the pitcher of record.
Seamus Brazill allowed three runs (2 earned) on three hits in two innings of relief and fell to 1-1 on the season for the Pride.
Foster had a double in third and then singled in the eighth. The junior also scored two runs. Friscia had two hits on the day as well.
Cerda finished the day 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Palma and Jason Patnick also recorded two hits apiece.
