Hempstead, NY – Hofstra rallied to win the doubles point and then won the first four completed singles flights on the way to a 5-2 victory over Binghamton Thursday afternoon at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center. The win was Hofstra's fifth consecutive.
The Pride moved to 10-15 with the win, while Binghamton slipped to 4-15.
The Bearcats began doubles with a 6-0 win by Annie DiMuro and Samara Eisenberg at the No. 1 flight over the Pride's
D'Asha Davis and
Tara Reutter. But Hofstra rebounded with a 6-0 win at No. 3 by
Giulia Leone and
Carmen Pestano over Maya Haykal and Allison Roma. The Pride's
Michal Kaplan and
Disha Yellayi then gave Hofstra the point with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Olga Ostrovetsky and Paulina Tafler.
Yellayi opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Haykal at No. 6. Leone followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Roma at No. 5. Pestano then clinched the match for the Pride with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Tafler at No. 4.
Sarah Catherine Herndon made it 5-0 for Hofstra as she downed Ostrovetsky in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, at No. 3. DiMuro and Samara Eisenberg saved Binghamton from being shutout with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Hofstra will close out the regular season next Tuesday when it hosts Stony Brook at 3 p.m.
