WTEN: Hampton Edges Hofstra 4-3

Hampton, VA – Hampton won the doubles point and then took the first three completed singles flights to clinch the match in a 4-3 win Monday at Screen-Neilsen Stadium. Hampton moved to 4-2 with the win. Hofstra dropped to 5-10 on the season.

The Pride started off strong as Carmen Pestano and Giulia Leone won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, over Mikaela Pierce and Haley Mullins. But the Pirates won the next two doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In singles play, Kristina Titova defeated Hofstra's D'Asha Davis at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-3) and Cherise Slocombe downed Jasmine King (6-2, 6-2) at the third flight as Hampton took a 3-0 lead. Mariam Mitaishvili then won the match for Hampton with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sarah Catherine Herndon at the second flight.

With the match already decided, the next three flights were conducted as 8-game pro sets and Hofstra got wins from Pestano, Disha Yellayi and Leone to account for the final score.
The Pride concludes their road trip with a Colonial Athletic Association match at James Madison on Tuesday afternoon.
