BB: Hofstra To Play NYIT Tuesday

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride Baseball team will look to snap a five-game losing streak when it takes on Long Island rival NYIT Tuesday night at Lorenzo Memorial Field. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be at NYIT, then moved to Mitchel Field, but is now back at NYIT.

Hofstra (4-14) has already defeated the Bears once this season, posting a 14-3 win on March 8 in the Pride's home opener. Hofstra had 15 hits in that game with Tom Archer knocking in four runs on a pair of doubles and David Leiderman collecting four hits on the day. James Beasley, the third of nine pitchers used on the day, was credited with the win.

Since that game, Hofstra has gone 1-6 and is coming off being swept by Albany in a three-game series in Salem, Virginia. Steven Foster leads the Pride with a .361 average and seven doubles. Mikey Riesner is batting .322 with 14 RBIs, while Vinnie Costello paces the Hofstra offense with three home runs.

Brad Witkowski will get the start for Hofstra. The senior, who is usually Hofstra's starting second baseman, is 0-1 in three appearances.

NYIT enters the game with a 2-13 record and has lost four consecutive games. The Bears just returned from being swept in a four-game series at Navy this past weekend. Anthony Caradonna is the Bears leading hitter at .321. Robert Fiato has a team-high six RBIs, while Jake Lebel has three doubles and five RBIs.

Hofstra is 28-21-2 against NYIT all-time and has won 12 consecutive contests in the series.

Live statistics and video will be available through the link above or from the schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Following the NYIT game, Hofstra will prepare to travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to open Colonial Athletic Association play against the College of Charleston on Friday.
