BB: Hofstra Heads To Virginia For Three Games Versus Albany

Hempstead, NY - After originally cancelling games this weekend, the Hofstra Baseball team will now play Albany in Salem, Virginia, in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday. The games will take place at Salem Memorial Stadium, the home of Salem Red Sox which is the Class A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Albany, which has not played since March 9, was able to secure the stadium to help the teams escape from the frigid Northeast for the weekend.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon and then have a single game Sunday with an 11 a.m. start time.

There will be no online coverage (live statistics, radio or video) of the games, but periodic updates will be provided via the Hofstra Baseball twitter account (@HofstraBaseball).

The Pride enters the weekend with a 4-11 record after going 1-3 at Troy last weekend. Mikey Riesner continues to produce at the plate and leads the team with a .340 average, 11 runs, 12 RBIs and four stolen bases. Steven Foster is batting .317 with five doubles and seven RBIs. Jorge Marrero paces the pitching staff with a 1-1 record and a 2.53 ERA. Chris Weiss is also 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA.

Albany is 4-5 on the season. The Great Danes split a doubleheader at NYIT on March 9 in their last game action. Marc Wagenstein has been the top offensive player for Albany as he enters the weekend with a .333 average, three home runs and five RBIs. Evan Harasta is batting .314 two doubles and six RBIs, while Kevin Donati is hitting an even .300 with seven RBIs. Brendan Smith has an 0-1 record on the mound with a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. Dominic Savino and Jack McClure are each 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

Teddy Cillis (0-2, 4.02) will start for the Pride in the opening game on Saturday with Marrero to follow in game two. John Rooney (1-3, 4.43) will start for Hofstra on Sunday. Albany did not announce its starting rotation.

After returning from Virginia, the Pride is slated to play at NYIT on Tuesday and will then head to Charleston, South Carolina, to open Colonial Athletic Association play against College of Charleston.
