Boston – Hofstra Women's Basketball suffered another close loss, falling, 52-46, to Northeastern in the regular-season finale Wednesday night at Cabot Center. Hofstra finished the regular season at 12-17 and 5-13 in Colonial Athletic Association play and will be the No. 9 seed in the CAA Championship.
In another historic night for senior
Krystal Luciano, she became just the fifth in CAA history to reach 1,000 career points, 500 career assists and 400 career rebounds. She finished the day with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists for career totals of 1,004 points, 526 assists and 420 rebounds.
Junior
Olivia Askin also finished in double figures, chipping in a career-high 13 points while classmate
Ashunae Durant added 12 points and 15 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season.
Northeastern (12-18, 8-10 CAA) also had three players finish in double figures, led by Claudia Ortiz's 14. Jess Genco contributed 12 and Te'Erica Eason added 10.
Durant knocked down the first point of the game with a free throw, but Northeastern's Francesca Sally drained a three-pointer at the other end. After the Huskies had taken a 7-6 lead, Askin hit a trey from the top of the key to put Hofstra back on top before Durant made a layup to give the Pride an 11-7 advantage with 3:48 to go in the quarter. Askin's second three of the night gave Hofstra a seven-point lead, but the Huskies trimmed it back to three with a pair of layups. Back-to-back buckets from junior
Aleana Leon and a pair of made free throws for Northeastern left Hofstra with an 18-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
Ortiz opened the second with a three, sparking a quarter-long 11-1 run for the Huskies. Jess Genco's layup knotted the game at 18 with about 5:30 left in the frame, before she hit a three to give Northeastern the advantage. The Huskies took a 24-19 advantage into the break.

Sydni Epps put Hofstra back ahead, 25-24. The teams traded points before an Ortiz three gave the Huskies a 32-28 advantage. A free throw from Durant and a three from Luciano knotted the score at 32, but Northeastern took a 34-32 lead into the final frame.
Durant brought it back even at 34 early in the fourth. After another exchange of baskets, Genco's three gave the Huskies a 40-38 lead. Luciano's layup that put her across the 1,000-point threshold also tied the game at 40. After Northeastern had taken a 44-40 lead, Askin's third trey brought the Pride back within one, but four free throws at the other end pushed the deficit back to five with 1:30 to go. Luciano's left-wing three shaved it back to two. Genco's foul shots with 16.3 seconds gave the Huskies the four-point advantage, and two more free throws from Francesca Sally sealed the win.
The Pride will head to the CAA Championship next week, taking on Towson in an opening-round game at noon on Wednesday at the JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
