Williamsburg, Va. – Hofstra Women's Basketball fell, 81-65, to William & Mary on Tuesday night in Kaplan Arena. The Tribe used a 56.1 shooting percentage, including 70.6 percent in the second quarter and 81.8 in the third quarter to stake a lead that the Pride couldn't overcome, despite Hofstra outscoring William & Mary, 42-35, in the second half.
The Pride (9-13, 2-9 Colonial Athletic Association) had three players finish in double figures, led by senior
Krystal Luciano with 18 points. Junior
Ashunae Durant and freshman
Marianne Kalin each chipped in 16, a career high for 16. Senior
Sydni Epps led the Pride on the glass with seven rebounds.
The Tribe (15-7, 5-6 CAA) were led by Alexandra Masqauel, who went 8-for-8 from the field for 16 points. Marlena Tremba contributed 15 while Bianca Boggs added 10.
Hofstra got on the board first with a free throw from junior
Ashunae Durant, but the Tribe answered with a 10-1 run. Freshman
Marianne Kalin halted the streak with a fast-break layup. Two more foul shots from Durant and another bucket from Kalin cut William & Mary's lead to 14-8 at the end of the quarter.
A jumper from senior
Sydni Epps opened the second frame and brought the Pride within four, but a pair of free throws from Bianca Boggs and a jumper from Jenna Green sparked a 12-2 run by the Tribe for a 27-12 advantage midway through the second. Senior
Krystal Luciano drained a three to halt the run, but William & Mary answered right back with a long-range jumper. Luciano then made a layup at the other end and was fouled on the shot, making the free throw to complete the three-point play and make it 30-18. The Tribe quickly pushed the lead to 41-20, using a 9-for-9 field-goal streak. Kalin made a pair of free throws, but a late layup gave William & Mary a 46-23 lead at halftime.
Junior
Aleana Leon came up with a steal early in the third quarter, making the fast-break layup and getting fouled on the play. She converted on the and-one free throw for the three-point play. The Tribe hit a pair of threes to continue to stretch the advantage before Durant also took advantage of an and-one opportunity. Durant then made a pair of mid-range jumpers and Kalin chipped in two more to bring it to 62-39 with three minutes left in the frame. Luciano knocked down a three before combining with Durant for a passing play to Kalin under the basket, but the Tribe took a 66-44 lead into the final frame.
Kalin continued to be hot for the Pride early in the fourth, knocking down a mid-range jumper. Junior
Olivia Askin sank a left-wing three to bring the Tribe's lead to 70-49 with 7:37 to go. Luciano added a trey of her own, Durant chipped in two buckets and
Sandra Dongmo made a layup, helping the Pride go 6-for-6 from the field in the first eight minutes of the fourth and cut the deficit to 77-63. Luciano made both free throws to shave the lead to 12 with 1:14 to go, part of a 14-2 run for the Pride, but the second-half push wasn't enough as the Tribe took the 81-65 win.

-Tuesday's game was a makeup game for a contest originally scheduled for Jan. 8 that was postponed due to inclement weather.
-Luciano has scored in double figures in three straight games, while Durant has five consecutive double-figure performances.
