MTEN: Hofstra Drops 4-3 Decision At Fordham

Harrison, NY – Hofstra won the doubles point and took two singles matches, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Fordham Sunday Night at the Life Time Athletic Club. The one-point loss was Hofstra's fourth of the season and second consecutive, dropping its record to 3-6 on the year. Fordham improved to 7-3 on the season.

Coco Haener and Niko Vulinovich picked up a 6-3 win over Tomas Cosmal and Allen Thornes in first doubles to open the match. Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner followed with a 7-5 win at the second flight over the Rams Nick Borak and Joe Kavaloski to clinch the point.

Things continued in favor of the Pride as Haener downed Fabian Mauritzson in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) at fourth singles and Leithner defeated Thornes (6-3, 6-2) to give Hofstra a 3-0 lead. But Fordham won the next four flights, including a trio of three set matches, to grab the win. Schrott put up a good battle in the deciding fifth flight, dropping a 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-3 decision to Borak.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday at noon when it hosts Morgan State at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.
