Hempstead, NY - Jacob Martin, Vinny Vespa, Ryan Burkert and Nezar Haddad each picked up victories, but it was not enough as Brown picked up a 23-12 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association win over the Pride Saturday at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Hofstra, which was competing in its regular season finale, slipped to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the EIWA. Brown upped its record to 8-7 overall and 5-5 in EIWA action.
Martin got things started for the Pride with a 6-4 decision over Trey Keeley. Martin scored five third period points on an escape, a takedown and two back points to erase a 3-1 deficit. Vespa followed with a 6-2 decision over Jimmy Pawelski to give Hofstra a 6-0 lead. The Bears tied the match with a forfeit at 141, but Burkert rallied for a 4-2 decision over Travis Vasquez at 149. Burkert tied the match in the third period and then had a takedown in extra time to put the Pride up 9-6. Steven Galiardo decisioned Jake Kaminsky at 157 to tie the score at 9.

The Bears took control of the match at 165 pounds as Jon Viruet posted a major decision victory over Cory Goshkagarian, 15-5. That gave Brown a 13-9 lead overall. Andrew LaBrie followed with another major decision win (14-4) over Sage Heller to boost the Brown lead to 17-9. CJ LaFragola earned a 10-4 decision over Bobby Fehr at 184 to give Brown a 20-9 lead.

Haddad got Hofstra back in the win column with a 5-2 decision at 197 pounds over Josh Durso-Finley.  Brown closed out the match with a 5-1 decision at 285 pounds by Ian Butterbrodt over Michael Oxley.

Hofstra will now gear up for the EIWA Championships, which take place March 3-4, at Bucknell.
