MTEN: Hofstra Drops Loyola (MD) For Second Consecutive Win

Oceanside, NY - Despite dropping the doubles point, Hofstra was able to control singles play in a 5-2 win over Loyola (MD) Sunday at Point Set Indoor. The Pride won five of the six singles flights to post their second consecutive victory.

Coco Haener and Niko Vulinovich got Hofstra started on the right foot with a 6-3 win over Blest Jones and Brett Shriver at first doubles, but the Greyhounds rallied to win the next two flights to earn the point. Reid Burch and CJ Cash defeated Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner, 6-4, at No. 2, while Brian Hoffarth and Kyle Gower picked up a 6-4 win over Nick Silvestri and David Schrott at third doubles.

Smith evened the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jones at first singles. Vulinovich followed with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 win at the second flight over Hoffarth. Leithner defeated Burch at No. 3, 7-5, 7-6, before Haener clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tyler Blessing at No. 4.

Cash earned Loyola's lone singles win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Silvestri at the fifth flight. With the match decided, Schrott and JJ Good competed in a pro set matchup at the sixth flight with the Hofstra junior prevailing, 8-2.

Hofstra moved to 3-4 with the win while Loyola slipped to 2-2 with the loss.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday when it hosts Bucknell at Sportime in Bethpage. Match time is 12:30 p.m.
