West Hartford, Conn. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team outscored Hartford, 23-16, in the fourth quarter, but couldn't complete the rally as the Hawks took a 60-49 win at Chase Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Olivia Askin finished with a career-high 18 points to lead the Pride (1-2), while classmate
Ashunae Durant chipped in 14 and eight rebounds.
Hartford (1-2) finished with two players in double figures, led by Janelle Harrison's 17 points. Sierra DaCosta added 15.
The Hawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and never relinquished the advantage. Askin hit her second of four three-pointers on the day late in the first to close the gap to 15-7. Sophomore
Petja Krupenko then chipped in five points early in the second quarter to make it a 19-12 game. Back-to-back treys pushed Hartford's lead to 28-14, with the Hawks taking a 30-15 advantage into the break.

Marianne Kalin knocked down the first points of the second half with a layup, before dishing off to senior
Aleana Leon a moment later to cut the deficit to 30-19, but the Hawks answered with an 8-0 run to extend their lead.
Krupenko opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer before Askin's fourth trey of the day cut the deficit to 12 at 49-37 with 5:11 to go. A layup from Durant shaved the deficit back to single digits with just over a minute to go, but the Hawks hung on for the 60-49 lead.
