Charleston, SC – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team dropped a 78-59 decision to Clemson in the semifinals of the Gildan Charleston Classic on Friday evening at TD Arena. The Pride dropped the game despite a 20-point effort from junior
Justin Wright-Foreman and a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds from senior
Rokas Gustys.
Hofstra falls to 3-1 with the loss, while Clemson improved to 4-0.
It was a tight first half with a jumper from sophomore
Eli Pemberton closing the gap to two, 30-28, for Hofstra with 3:22 left before intermission. At that point the Tigers closed the opening stanza on a 12-4 run to make it a 42-32 game at the break. Back-to-back three-pointers from Wright-Foreman and Pemberton in the first five minutes of the second half closed the gap to 48-42, but that would be as close as the Pride would get as Clemson answered with a 9-0 scoring run.
Pemberton finished with 14 points for Hofstra. Donte Grantham scored a game-high 22 points for Clemson, while Marcquise Reed had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Hofstra will take on Auburn in its final game at the Charleston Classic on Sunday at 7 p.m. That game will air on ESPNU. It will be the Pride's third straight game on ESPNU.
