Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Pride Field Hockey team heads out for two big games this weekend as the Pride travel Northeastern for a big Colonial Athletic Association contest at Dedham Field on Friday, October 6 at 6 p.m. before returning home on Sunday, October 8 for a non-conference clash with the 25
th-ranked Hawks of Monmouth University at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
Fans can follow the live stats of both contests through HofstraStats.com with links on this page as well as on the Pride Field Hockey schedule page on GoHofstra.com. Northeastern will provide a live video stream of Friday night's contest while Pride Productions will provide a live audio stream of Sunday's game against Monmouth with links for both located on this page and the GoHofstra.com field hockey schedule page.
The Pride is 6-7, 1-1 on the season after their 1-1 CAA mark last weekend. Hofstra dropped a 5-0 decision at #18William and Mary last Friday but bounced back to blank Towson, 4-0 on Think Pink Day on Sunday at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Tribe senior Emma MacLeod tallied four goals to tie a school record and lead William and Mary to victory.
On Sunday, Pride junior
Madison Sauve scored two goals and added an assist and newcomers Anne van der Boomen and
Frankie O'Brien added solo goals in the victory over Towson. The Tigers did not get a shot on goal in the contest as the Pride defeated Towson for the seventh consecutive time to boost their series advantage to 27-11.
Hofstra continues to be led in scoring this season by
Madison Sauve with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Freshman
Philine de Wolf has added six goals and three assists while classmate
Frankie O'Brien has chipped in with four goals and three assists. Graduate-student
Marloes Schavemaker leads the team with six assists. Swan has a 2.60 goals against average and a .726 save percentage with 82 saves in 13 games this season.
Friday's conference game at Northeastern is a key one with future possible CAA Championship Tournament ramifications. While there are no guarantees, the logical assumption has the three nationally-ranked CAA teams, #7 Delaware, #16 James Madison and #18 William and Mary getting three of four conference championship spots. That leaves one spot for the remaining four teams, Hofstra, Northeastern, Drexel and Towson. But then again, anything can happen.
The Huskies, like the Pride, are 1-1 in the CAA and 6-5 overall this season. Northeastern is coming off a 2-1 win over Towson and a 3-1 loss to William and Mary in their conference opening weekend. Friday's contest will be the 23
rd meeting between Hofstra and Northeastern with the Huskies holding a 16-6 series lead. Northeastern topped the Pride, 4-2 last season but the two teams have split the last four contests. Hofstra topped the Huskies on the road in 2015, 3-0. The Pride has won the last two contests at Northeastern.
Sunday's non-conference match-up against #25 Monmouth will be the Pride's third ranked opponent of the season following contests against #21 Saint Joseph's and #19 William and Mary. The Hawks are 8-2 on the season and square off at Fairfield on Friday before coming to Long Island. Sunday's game will be the seventh in the series with the Pride winning the previous six meetings including a 6-0 win in Hempstead in 2012.
The Monmouth game starts a two-game, non-conference homestand that will also see Saint Francis (PA) visit the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium on October 15 at noon. Following these two games, the Pride will wrap up the regular season with CAA games at #16 James Madison on October 22 and at home against #7 Delaware on October 27 and against Drexel on October 29.
