ATH: Hofstra Undergoing Major Athletic Facility Upgrades

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Department of Athletics is continuing to renovate, update and improve several of its athletic facilities as the 2017-18 academic year is underway.

"We are always looking to improve our facilities and offer our student-athletes the best possible experience here at Hofstra University," commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway. "The facilities enhancements that have recently been completed or are in the midst of completion will help improve our existing facilities and provide our athletic programs with outstanding areas to compete and practice."

Below are the facilities and the updates that have been made:

David S. Mack Physical Education Center - The volleyball facility has received extensive upgrades. These comprehensive changes include dynamic graphics added to both the south and east walls recognizing the incredible career of former Head Coach Fran Kalafer, the outstanding history of the program, showcasing several outstanding alumni and promoting the Pride's many conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. In addition, the floor in the Mack Physical Education Center was completely redone with a new design on the court utilizing Hofstra's logo, social media handle and website address. The wall updates were completed by NCG Visuals and the floor was done by Milburn Flooring.

James M. Shuart Stadium - A new FieldTurf surface will soon be installed. The FieldTurf Revolution 360 surface will be installed by The LandTek Group, one of the nation's leaders in the area of turf maintenance. A rendering of the new surface will be available soon.

Hofstra Bubble - Similar to Shuart Stadium, the indoor practice facility for Hofstra teams is receiving a new FieldTurf Classic HD surface. This will also be done with the assistance of The LandTek Group.

Bill Edwards Stadium - Changes have been made for the playing surface at the home of the Hofstra Softball program. The LandTek Group has worked to improve the drainage at the facility and this has been done via several changes to the infield playing surface and the transition from the infield to outfield. The clay-to-grass lip from the infield to outfield has been redone to make for a smoother transition from each surface. The infield surface has also been laser-graded to assist in the movement of additional rainwater off the infield in the event of inclement weather. In the area behind home plate, the clay area closest to the grandstand has been excavated and replaced by new soil and crushed stone, similar to the warning track around the stadium. That area extends approximately five feet off the grandstand wall and the improved drainage area/crushed rock surface is followed by nearly 20 feet of newly-installed sod.

Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium - The entrance to the home of the Pride Field Hockey program has been redone to include a larger concrete area and a brick walkway, where fans and alumni can support the program by purchasing a brick to adorn the stadium entrance. This project was completed with the assistance of the Hofstra Physical Plant Department and the bricks are produced by North Shore Monuments.

Traditions Projects - Throughout nearly all of the facilities on Hofstra's campus are projects celebrating the rich history of the programs that call that site home. The Mack Sports Complex, Mack Physical Education Center, Joseph M. Margiotta Hall, Bill Edwards Stadium, Hofstra Soccer Stadium and The Fried Family Student-Athlete Development Center are in the process of extensive updates in addition to the edits to these various projects mentioned above. These projects are being updated by Custom D'Signs and NCG Visuals.

The Hofstra University Department of Athletics thanks its many partners in the area of athletic facilities for their assistance with these projects and extends a special thank you to the Hofstra Physical Plant Department for their continued support of our student-athletes, coaches and teams.
