Marcus Smith advanced to the second round in singles and the team of
Niko Vulinovich and
Coco Haener moved on in doubles as play continued at the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Thursday.

Smith defeated Maric Budinszky of Fairleigh Dickinson in three sets to move on. The Hofstra junior dropped the first set, 3-6, before posting a pair of 7-5 wins in sets two and three. Smith will face Charlie Broom of Dartmouth in round two. Broom is seeded in the 5-8 block and received a first round bye.

Vulinovich and Haener played a highly competitive match against Matt Kuhar and Luke Lorenz, coming out on top by an 8-7 (7-4) score. The Hofstra duo will face Penn's Kyle Mautner and Dmitry Shatalin on Friday. The Quaker pair is seeded in the 9-16 grouping.

Haener pulled double duty on Thursday as he dropped his singles match to Cornell's Evan Bynoe. 6-2 and 6-1. He will now advance to the consolation draw.
