Richmond, VA – Hofstra Field Hockey freshman defender
Frankie O'Brien has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the period ending October 15, the CAA announced Tuesday.
O'Brien, a native of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, tied the Hofstra school record with three assists in the Pride's 7-3 victory over the Red Flash of Saint Francis University at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium last Sunday. She joins teammate
Marloes Schavemaker, who tallied three assists against Quinnipiac earlier this season,
Claudia Marin Samper in 2015, Jonel Boileau in 2013 and Genna Kovar, who achieved it three times in 2011, as the Pride's single-game assist record-holder.
O'Brien assisted on the Pride's first goal of the contest following a corner and passing to classmate
Jordan Thompson for her second goal of the year. She added her second assist of the game 4:51 into the second half firing a shot that was deflected by sophomore
Madison Warfel for her first goal of the season. She then wrapped up her day as time expired on a penalty corner, finding junior
Madison Sauve at the left post for her third assist of the game.
O'Brien now has four goals and seven assists for 15 points while starting all 16 games for Hofstra. She also has two defensive saves and has taken 36 shots for the Pride this season.
Hofstra and O'Brien will be back in action this Sunday, October 22 when the Pride travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to face the Dukes of James Madison University in a CAA game at noon.
